The Rainbow Angels cont'd

- 5 -

They heard their tiny little grandmother calling them in for lunch. They went in not feeling very hungry. Over the meal they told their grandfather about Mr. Gelato's problem. "If only 1 had a magic wand, children, think what wrongs 1 could right" exclaimed the old man. The comment got them all thinking about their meeting with the angels the previous day. Antonio said "I wonder what would happen if I kiss my ring?"

And he did just that. In seconds his lip colour had changed once more to a silvery white and an angel emerged from his ring stone. "Why do you call me, Antonio?" whispered Shimmer who was now standing on his left shoulder, Antonio was amazed to see the tiny fairy-like creature again. He hadn't entirely believed what had happened the day before but now he was convinced. "We need to help a friend of ours - Mr. Gelato and teach some horrible men - the Matocs, a lesson!" he said.

"Don't worry, we'll get Mr. Gelato back on the road again" said Shimmer gently and proceeded to fly over to their grandfather and perch on his nose! Grandfather went pale at first then cross-eyed trying to focus on Shimmer. Finally he pointed an accusing finger at no one in particular and said sternly, "Enough of this hocus-pocus. Could someone tell me what's going on. Your magic tricks are too much children!" He was still in a state of shock as Shimmer settled on his shoulder very demurely. Myra looked up at her grandfather and explained to him that this was no hocus-pocus and that Shimmer was Antonio's guardian angel. Antonio's lips matched Shimmer's colour she pointed out. Shimmer then told the grandparents all about the previous days adventure. Of how the rainbow had led the children to the angel's rock and how the Empress of the Rainbow had left them each with a special angel to act as their guardian and magical helper. They could summon their angels through their ring stones, she explained. Their grandparents sat wide-eyed in amazement. When she had finished the two old people said that they wished they were young again and that Shimmer could give them some of her magic to help them see as they used to when they were young.

As the children set off down the mountain once more shimmer told them that the Matocs had sold the wheels to some passing Gypsies. Because the wheels were painted a bright blue they shouldn't be too difficult to spot, she added. Monica said that she had seen some Gypsy caravans in the town of Tresivio as they had passed through it that morning. "Well, it's no use standing around here, let's go and speak to them" said Natasha who was not very patient and preferred plenty of action. "Let's go back and get grandfather to give us a lift in his tiny little flat car"

Grandfather grumbled a bit about not having time to wash the dishes but was secretly pleased to have something more exciting to do. So, they all set off squashed into the car down the old winding road to Tresivio. As they approached the gypsy encampment they heard lots of laughter, singing and guitar playing. The gypsies were dancing around their campfire.
